Vishnu aarti · The concluding aarti of almost any puja, and the standard daily evening aarti in most homes.

Om Jai Jagdish Hare

The most widely sung aarti across Hindu households — addressed to Lord Vishnu as the Lord of the universe. Composed by Pandit Shraddharam Phillauri, it commonly concludes a puja of any deity.

Refrain

Om Jai Jagdish Hare, Swami Jai Jagdish Hare,

Bhakt jano ke sankat, kshan mein door kare.

Victory to you, O Lord of the universe; you remove the troubles of your devotees in an instant.

Verse 1

Jo dhyave phal pave, dukh vinse man ka,

Swami dukh vinse man ka,

Sukh sampatti ghar aave, kasht mite tan ka.

Whoever meditates on you reaps the fruit and the mind's sorrow dissolves; happiness and prosperity come home and the body's suffering ends.

Verse 2

Mat-pita tum mere, sharan gahun main kiski,

Swami sharan gahun main kiski,

Tum bin aur na dooja, aas karun jiski.

You are my mother and father — whose refuge else can I seek? There is none other than you in whom I can place my hope.

Verse 3

Tum pooran Parmatma, tum antaryami,

Swami tum antaryami,

Parbrahma Parmeshwar, tum sabke swami.

You are the perfect Supreme Soul, the indweller of all; the Supreme Brahman and Lord, master of all.

Verse 4

Tum karuna ke sagar, tum palan-karta,

Swami tum palan-karta,

Main moorakh khal kami, kripa karo bharta.

You are the ocean of compassion and the sustainer; I am foolish and desire-ridden — have mercy, O provider.

Verse 5

Tum ho ek agochar, sabke pran-pati,

Swami sabke pran-pati,

Kis vidhi milun dayamay, tumko main kumati.

You alone are the imperceptible Lord of every life; how may I, of poor understanding, attain you, O merciful one?

Verse 6

Deenbandhu dukhharta, tum Thakur mere,

Swami tum Thakur mere,

Apne hath uthao, dwar pada tere.

Friend of the poor, remover of sorrow, you are my Lord; raise your hand in blessing — I lie fallen at your door.

Verse 7

Vishay-vikar mitao, paap haro Deva,

Swami paap haro Deva,

Shraddha-bhakti badhao, santan ki seva.

Erase my cravings and faults and take away my sins, O Lord; increase my faith and devotion and the service of the saints.

Verse 8

Shri Jagdish ji ki aarti, jo koi nar gave,

Swami jo koi nar gave,

Kahat Shivanand Swami, sukh sampatti pave.

Whoever sings this aarti to Shri Jagdish — says Swami Shivananda — obtains joy and prosperity.
