Saraswati aarti · Sung during Vasant Panchami, Saraswati Puja, and before study, music, and exams.

Jai Saraswati Mata

The aarti to Goddess Saraswati, giver of knowledge, speech, music, and the arts. Central to Vasant Panchami worship.

Refrain

Jai Saraswati Mata, Maiya Jai Saraswati Mata,

Sadgun vaibhav shalini, tribhuvan vikhyata.

Victory to Mother Saraswati, adorned with virtue and splendour, renowned across the three worlds.

Verse 1

Chandravadani padmasini, dyuti mangalkari,

Sohe shubh hans savari, atul tejdhari.

Moon-faced and seated on the lotus, your radiance is auspicious; the sacred swan is your beautiful mount, and you bear matchless splendour.

Verse 2

Baayen kar mein veena, daayen kar mala,

Shish mukut mani sohe, gal motiyan mala.

In your left hand the veena, in your right the rosary; a jewelled crown graces your head and a pearl garland your throat.

Verse 3

Devi sharan jo aaye, unka uddhar kiya,

Paithi Manthara dasi, Ravan sanhar kiya.

Those who came to the Goddess's refuge she delivered; even entering the maid Manthara (as the power of the spoken word), she set in motion the destruction of Ravana.

Verse 4

Vidya gyan pradayini, gyan prakash bharo,

Moh agyan aur timir ka, jag se naash karo.

Giver of learning and knowledge, fill us with the light of wisdom; destroy delusion, ignorance, and darkness from the world.

Verse 5

Dhoop deep phal meva, Maa sweekar karo,

Gyanchakshu de Mata, jag nistar karo.

Accept this incense, lamp, fruit, and offering, O Mother; grant the eye of wisdom and deliver the world.

Verse 6

Maa Saraswati ki aarti, jo koi jan gave,

Hitkari sukhkari, gyan bhakti pave.

Whoever sings this aarti to Mother Saraswati — beneficial and joy-giving — attains knowledge and devotion.
