Auspicious dates for buying a new vehicle in 2026 — Pushya nakshatra and other favorable windows
A vehicle muhurat is the auspicious day chosen for the delivery and first drive of a new car, scooter, or two-wheeler. Indian families across India and the diaspora time vehicle purchases to favorable muhurats — and dealerships in many cities will hold a finalized vehicle for a customer until their chosen muhurat date.
Pushya nakshatra is the most auspicious nakshatra for any purchase, especially of vehicles, gold, or property. Pushya occurs once in the lunar month (when the Moon is in Cancer), giving roughly twelve Pushya days a year. Pushya falling on a Sunday (Ravi Pushya) or Thursday (Guru Pushya) is doubly auspicious.
| Month | Pushya day (at sunrise, IST) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| January | Mon, Jan 5 | Strong buying window continues after Makar Sankranti (Jan 14) |
| February | Sun, Feb 1 | Ravi Pushya — Pushya on a Sunday, doubly auspicious |
| March | Sun, Mar 1 · Sat, Mar 28 | Mar 1 is Ravi Pushya; Mar 28 is Shani Pushya (the Saturday exception — see FAQ) |
| April | Fri, Apr 24 | Akshaya Tritiya (Apr 19) is itself self-auspicious for any purchase |
| May | Thu, May 21 | Guru Pushya — Pushya on Jupiter's own weekday, doubly auspicious |
| June | Thu, Jun 18 | Guru Pushya again — the year's second |
| July | Wed, Jul 15 | Falls before Chaturmas begins (Devshayani Ekadashi, Jul 25) |
| August | Wed, Aug 12 | Chaturmas — acceptable for vehicle purchase in many families; confirm your family's rule |
| September | Tue, Sep 8 | Before Pitru Paksha starts (Sep 26) |
| October | Mon, Oct 5 | Falls inside Pitru Paksha (Sep 26–Oct 10) — generally avoided; prefer the Navratri–Dussehra window (Oct 11–20) |
| November | Sun, Nov 1 · Sun, Nov 29 | Both Ravi Pushya; Dhanteras (Nov 6) is the year's classic vehicle-purchase day |
| December | Sat, Dec 26 | Shani Pushya; Kharmas from ~Dec 16 — many defer to January |
Dates are the days on which Pushya prevails at sunrise (Delhi, IST), computed with Sanatani.ai's own panchang engine (Lahiri ayanamsa). Pushya enters and exits mid-day, so its exact window shifts slightly with your city and timezone — check the live Panchang for your location before fixing the hour, and clear the final date against your chart with Purohit Ji.
Pushya day on Mon, Jan 5. Strong window after Makar Sankranti (Jan 14).
Pushya falls on Sunday, Feb 1 — a Ravi Pushya, doubly auspicious. Multiple favorable tithi-nakshatra combinations through the month.
Two Pushya days: Sun, Mar 1 (Ravi Pushya) and Sat, Mar 28 (Shani Pushya — see the Saturday FAQ). Holi week (Mar 4) is generally avoided for vehicle delivery.
Akshaya Tritiya (Apr 19) — exceptionally auspicious. Pushya day on Fri, Apr 24.
Pushya falls on Thursday, May 21 — a Guru Pushya, doubly auspicious. Strong window in early May.
Pushya falls on Thursday, Jun 18 — a second Guru Pushya in a row.
Pushya day on Wed, Jul 15 — before Devshayani Ekadashi (Jul 25) begins Chaturmas. Major life events are generally avoided after that; vehicle purchase during Chaturmas varies by family rule.
Pushya day on Wed, Aug 12.
Pushya day on Tue, Sep 8. Avoid Pitru Paksha (Sep 26 onwards).
Pitru Paksha until Oct 11 — the month's Pushya (Mon, Oct 5) falls inside it and is generally avoided. The Navratri-Dussehra window (Oct 11-20) is auspicious instead.
Dhanteras (Nov 6) — exceptionally auspicious for vehicle / metal purchases. Diwali (Nov 8). Two Ravi Pushya Sundays: Nov 1 and Nov 29. Strong window throughout November after Devuthani Ekadashi, which falls on Nov 20 or Nov 21 depending on your city — the tithi ends 6:32 am IST on Nov 21, inside the spread of Indian sunrises, so Delhi and Mumbai keep the 20th and Kolkata, Chennai and Varanasi the 21st.
Pushya day on Sat, Dec 26 (Shani Pushya). Kharmas begins ~Dec 16 — many families defer major purchases to January.
Pushya is called the 'king of nakshatras' — its presiding deity is Brihaspati (Jupiter), and it is considered the most auspicious nakshatra for any new acquisition, especially one that requires good fortune (gold, vehicles, property). Pushya days are a safe default for any purchase in 2026.
A short ceremonial puja performed on the new vehicle. Tilak is applied with kumkum, chandan, and akshat to the steering wheel or handlebar; a coconut is placed on the dashboard or hood; a brief Ganesh Vandana is recited; the first drive is typically to a temple. Most car dealerships in India will perform a basic Vahan Puja at delivery.
Yes — even on an otherwise auspicious muhurat day, the first drive avoids the day's Rahu kaal (a 90-minute window that varies by weekday). Sanatani.ai's Panchang and Muhurat tools surface Rahu kaal for every day.
Saturday is the day of Saturn — generally avoided for new acquisitions and journeys, especially if Saturn is afflicted in your chart. Pushya falling on a Saturday (Shanaiya Pushya) is the rare exception where Saturday is permissible.
Some families take a 'symbolic delivery' on the muhurat day (signing papers, applying tilak, brief drive) and the actual extended drive happens later. This preserves the muhurat for the auspicious moment without requiring exact delivery timing.
