The three exceptions this page tests

Each is a comparison of what you already hold. Where one applies, the rule that decided it is named.

• Same rashi, different nakshatras — Both Moon positions fall in one rashi but in different nakshatras.
• Same nakshatra, different rashis — The nakshatra is shared, but the padas place the two Moons in different rashis.
• Same nakshatra, different padas — The nakshatra is shared and the padas differ.

Basis: convention. The rule circulates as a single verse and every source we can read attributes it to the Muhurta tradition rather than citing a text and verse number, so it is shown here as attributed, not cited.

Which nadi each nakshatra carries

• Adi nadi — Ashwini, Ardra, Punarvasu, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Jyeshtha, Mula, Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada.
• Madhya nadi — Bharani, Mrigashira, Pushya, Purva Phalguni, Chitra, Anuradha, Purva Ashadha, Dhanishta, Uttara Bhadrapada.
• Antya nadi — Krittika, Rohini, Ashlesha, Magha, Swati, Vishakha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana, Revati.

What this page does not cover

“Not cancelled” here means none of the three exceptions above applied — not that nothing else could. These readings are deliberately not applied: the same verse’s fourth rule (same nakshatra and same pada, exempt for a list of nakshatras that differs from source to source); rashi-lord friendship exceptions; and gana agreement or a different gotra read as reducing severity.
